CCTV Installation Planning Guide for Qatar

Before choosing camera quantities, define what each camera must see, how long video must be retained and how the system will be operated.

Doha, Qatar

Before choosing camera quantities, define what each camera must see, how long video must be retained and how the system will be operated.

1. Define the purpose of every camera

Start with entrances, exits, circulation paths, cash or transaction points, perimeter areas and other locations that genuinely require evidence or live monitoring. A camera should have a clear operational purpose rather than simply filling a drawing.

2. Plan coverage before selecting resolution

Field of view, mounting height, lighting, distance and the level of detail required determine whether a camera can deliver useful evidence. More megapixels do not compensate for poor placement.

3. Calculate recording and storage

Retention depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression, bitrate and whether recording is continuous or event-based. Storage should be calculated rather than guessed so the system meets the required recording period.

4. Treat the network as part of the CCTV system

IP cameras, PoE switches, NVRs and remote viewing rely on network capacity and correct segmentation. Cabling, switch PoE budget, uplinks and rack layout should be considered during CCTV design.

5. Secure remote viewing

Remote access should use controlled user accounts, strong credentials and the safest supported connection method. Avoid shared admin accounts and undocumented access.

6. Plan for maintenance access

Cameras, recorders and network equipment should remain reachable for cleaning, troubleshooting and replacement. Clear labels and documentation shorten future service visits.

7. Confirm Qatar project requirements

Almajd has MOI approval in Qatar. Applicable regulatory, approval and project requirements can vary by site and scope, so they should be confirmed before final equipment selection and execution.
